Logo of the Center for Aerospace Education
The logo for Windward Community College's Center for Aerospace Education (CAE) symbolizes the celestial link between Hawaii's Polynesian
heritage and statehood future.
The double-hulled canoe, silhouetted against the volcanic mountains of Hawaii,
navigates directly under the guidance of the brilliant star, Hokule'a ("Star of Joy"). Named Arcturus in the western world, Hokule'a is the sky's third brightest star.
Today astronomers gaze at the heavens from the peaks of these same extinct
volcanoes. We reach to the stars, not only with our eyes, but even with a launch
facility on Kauai and rocketry labs at UH Manoa and Windward Community College.
The curtain of steep mountains further symbolizes the Koolau range which forms
the backdrop of Windward Community College, the home of the CAE.
The logo also depicts the 4 major fields of learning undertaken at the Center for Aerospace
Education:
• the horizontal bands symbolize the study of our atmosphere
• the star and surrounding blackness represent the mysteries facing astronomy
• the wake of the aerospace vehicle, bridging air and space, is the connection
between aviation and rocketry.
