December 2019
The Holiday Season is upon Us
When decorating a Christmas tree, many individuals place a star at the top of the tree symbolizing the star of Bethlehem that guided the Wise Men to the Christ child. But was it a star? Many sky watchers, astronomers, stargazers and historians have pondered this question. Perhaps Hokulani Imaginarium can shed some light on this age-old question. Join us Friday, December 6, at 8:15 p.m. to ponder and explore the possible explanations of the Star of Bethlehem.
I
Also join us for a special discounted show, Season of Light, priced just right for a holiday special flat rate of $5, Saturday, December 21, at 2p.m. This is
a visually rich show about the darkest and coldest time of year, winter. The show explains why we have seasons and traces the origins of many of the world’s most enduring customs from Christmas trees to the Hanukkah Menorah, Santa to the Star of Bethlehem.

Reasons to Look Up Into the December Night Sky
Geminids Meteor Shower
December 13-14, 2019
This is one of the best meteor showers with up to 120 multicolored meteors at its peak. The debris left from
asteroid 3200 Phaethon runs from December 7-18 but peaks the night of December 13th. Unfortunately there will be almost a full moon which will block out a lot of the meteors but you may still catch some of the brighter ones.

Ursids Meteor Shower
December 21-22, 2019
The dust grains left by the
Tuttle comet produces 5-10 meteors per hour during its peak the night of the 21st. The shower runs from December 17-25, and on the night of the 21st, the waning crescent moon shouldn’t interfere with the viewing.
