February 2015
New Year, Full Schedule
Happy Lunar New Year! There are a few highlights and changes for this new semester here at WCC that will offer more opportunities to see a variety of our Imaginarium programs. We hit this Year of the Sheep/Ram/Goat full speed, keeping us busy with special events.
There are TWO stargazing shows this month--what I call the "G" and "PG-21" versions. The first is the "G-rated'
Stargazing on Feb. 11 (see sidebar), held regularly on the second Wednesday of every month. Those of you who are familiar with this show know that even though it's the same title each month, it's NOT the same show since the sky changes from month to month as we progress through our orbit around the Sun. And of course presenter Krissie always manages to keep things fresh and lively under the Imaginarium skies!
Then on Saturday, Feb. 14, is the second stargazing program, "PG-21"
Star-Crossed Lovers, back by popular demand on Valentine's Day. This is a great opportunity do something fun and different with your romantic partner or friends. We have scheduled two seatings at 7:00pm and 8:30pm. Each seating will start with wine, flowers and treats at our Aerospace Exploration Lab. An astro-themed photo booth will also be available, so bring your camera and post away!
The festivities then proceed to the Imaginarium where resident star lore expert Krissie Kellogg will enlighten and entertain you with her "grown-up version" of constellation mythology. Some of these mythical gods and goddesses were rather unrestrained when it came to their romantic adventures, and these stories may not be appropriate for younger audiences. Come and join us for this special night--reservations and proof of age are required. Tickets are $15/person. Please call (808) 235-7433 by February 13 (no tickets will be sold after this date).

At the other end of the program spectrum is the premiere of a program for kids and their families called
Kaluokahina: The Enchanted Reef on Saturday, February 21. This program was generously sponsored by a donation from the
Iris and Rodney Fukui Family, through the Imaginarium's Adopt-a-Show sponsorship.
"Kaluokahina" will be offered at 2pm and 3pm -- but wait -- there's more! We are excited about our new partnership with the University of Hawaii's
Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education (CMORE) to bring ocean science activities and demos between
1pm-4pm on the 21st. Reservations are recommended due to limited seating in the Imaginarium.
Family programs will now be on the third Saturday afternoon of every month (see Saturday Matinee in sidebar). These programs, for younger audiences, are scheduled at 2pm and 3pm, however audiences of all ages will find these programs entertaining as well. In addition, the last Friday evening each month will be reserved for more general programming (SE Double Date Night in sidebar). An astronomy program at 7pm will be followed by one of our music shows at 8:15pm. Each show is priced separately; you do not need to attend both.
As always, we welcome your feedback or questions, or if you would like more information regarding our
Adopt-a-Show sponsorship. Please feel free to phone or e-mail us at the contacts provided at the end of this newsletter.
