The Korean Triplet Stars

This Korean legend explains why triplet sisters stand guard in the Winter sky as the three stars in Orion's Belt. 

The triplets, who lived by the swamp of the Black Dragon Lake,  learned of two black dragons that threatened the heaven. When the female dragon swallowed the sun, the triplets tracked her down and forced the dragon to release the sun. In their quest, they were only able to slay one of the black dragons.

As a result, the triplets ascended to the sky to guard the sun against the surviving dragon ... and to this date are known as Samtaeseong -- Triplets Stars.
